Ezrah Dormon is an accomplished tattoo artist whose work has become a sensation on Instagram. Oh, and Dormon is 12 years old. When I was 12, I was wearing a backwards red Yankees hat and trying to see how many Totino’s Pizza Rolls I could sneak before my Mom noticed. So clearly I can relate to Dormon’s level of accomplishment.
According to a profile in Teen Vogue, Dorman became interested in tattooing when he saw his mother getting inked during a family vacation to Panama City, and his mother, in turn, became very supportive of Dormon following his dream:
“I was just getting that tattoo and Ezrah was just sitting there watching us and talking. And he was like, ‘Wow, I really wish I could try that. I would love to know how to do that,’ and Ali was, like, ‘Well, why don’t you try it now?'”
Since then, Dormon did a few small pieces for his father, plus about a dozen customers at a local ink shop in an assistant’s capacity. When he’s got the gun in hand, he goes by “The Shark,” because that’s a cool as hell nickname.
At first, many of his friends were taken aback by Dormon’s new hobby, but he’s got his eye on the prize no matter what:
“My friends, at the beginning, none of them believed me. Like when I did my mom, I told them that I did the tattoo and they were like, ‘Ugh, please.’ And some people at school think that it’s awesome.
What I want to do is, maybe I would, like, travel around the world with my tattoo gun, or when I go to college I’ll have that in my suitcase that I can just pull out and give a tattoo to earn money.”
