Joan Didion, award-winning and prized essayist is being celebrated in a new documentary about her writing. Netflix has revealed the trailer for the doc, Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold.
In an interview and narration story, Joan Didion’s life is analyzed as viewers come to understand the importance of writing for Didion. She grew up writing in notebooks and fell in love with writing essays that have received tremendous acclaim for critics and readers.
The losses felt in this documentary echo American politics, criticized by Didion in her works, but also the loss of family as she mourns the deaths of husband and child. Each instance described in her work is brought to life as she examines the truth behind it all.
The documentary stars Joan Didion, Hilton Als, David Hare, Phyllis Rifield, and Amy Robinson, all playing themselves. The documentary is set to premiere on October 27.
