couples-travel

Anyone who travels a lot, whether for business or otherwise, knows just how tough it can be to maintain a relationship while on-the-go. For those who feel passionately about seeing the world, if you’re not leaving on a new adventure — you’re probably daydreaming about your next. If you travel for work, the extended periods of time away from the ones you love can take a serious toll. Either way, balancing your traveling schedule with your home life can be difficult — as it always feels like one or the other is being neglected. Here are 7 tips to help you maintain your relationship while you travel:

Show him/her affection while you’re away

Maybe send your significant other back home flowers or a post card. Showing them that you are still thinking of them will go a long way.

Share your experiences

When you return home, be sure to share all of your memories. If your significant other knows details about your trip, it will feel more like an inclusive experience—rather than an isolating one.

Talk to each other every day

Make time for your loved one while you’re away. Maybe it’s a nightly phone call or facetime session. This gives you the chance to share your memories more regularly and remain connected.

Distance makes the heart grow fonder

Remember, distance makes the heart grow fonder. It’s healthy to miss someone, embrace and value the feeling. Upon returning home you will have a new found appreciation for their presence.

Ask them about life at home

Just because you’re in some exotic location and they are back home, doesn’t mean they didn’t have an exciting new experience that day. Ask them about how things are with them, and what they did that day. If you miss home, don’t be afraid to say so.

Watch a movie together

I know this doesn’t sound possible—but it is. Especially in this day and age. Start a Netflix binge at the same time over the phone or facetime. Share in the laughs and emotions, and you won’t feel so far away.

Bring them along next time

Perhaps you are traveling somewhere regularly for work. Find things your partner would enjoy in the city and invite them along next time. While you’re working throughout the day, he/she can go sight-seeing.
