It’s pretty unlikely that you’ll go to the same college as your best friend. Even though you may be thick as thieves, you both have unique interests and educational goals. Being separated from your best friend is just as hard as you think it’ll be, no matter how much you try to convince yourself. Here are nine things that inevitably happen when you and your best friend go to different colleges.
You fall out of touch
No matter how much you talk to your best friend, you’ll eventually lose contact. Since you’re not spending all day with them, you will grow more distant. But don’t worry, just because you’re not as close doesn’t mean you’ll stop being friends with them.
You make new friends
Being separated from your best friend and being in a new environment means you’ll form new friendships with your fellow college students. Sure, you won’t be as close are you are with your best friend, but it’ll make the transition a lot smoother.
You get jealous
When you see your best friend make new friends at their own school, you can’t help but feel jealous of their new friends. They get to spend time together while you’re stuck far away at a different school.
You won’t have each other to keep you company
The transition from high school to college is tough, which is why being with your best friend is what you need the most. But when you and your best friend are going to different colleges, you won’t have the comfort of being around your closest friend.
You Facetime a lot more
Since you can’t spend a lot of time together with your best friend anymore, Facetime will be your best bet. Expect to video call your best friend several times a week to catch up and talk about lives at your new schools.
You plan vacations together
Since you can’t spend all of your time together anymore, you pretty much just have spring break and summer vacation to hang out. So you plan vacations together way in advanced because you can’t wait to see them again.
You visit each other at your schools
A bonus of having your best friend at a different school is that you now have an excuse to come visit the school. You get to stay in their dorm for free and you have the best free tour guide around.
You consider transferring
After a while, you start to think about the possibility of going to the same college as your best friend. Even though you may not seriously want to change schools, it will definitely cross your mind at least once.
You miss them
Most importantly, after spending a lot of your life alongside your best friend, you’ll start to miss them now that you’re living without them. Pictures, facetimes, and occasional visits may be nice, but they’re never as good as the real thing.
