If you’re a woman over the age of 13, then you have perfected the art of hiding your tampon or pad in your sleeve. Periods are fun, right? Nope! Let’s talk periods; the word itself is almost whispered about as though it was curse word when in actuality it’s not a big deal at all. Women have been experiencing their period since the beginning of time and it’s only recently that they are discovering new ways to improve the inevitable cycle. PMS are the symptoms that usually accompany this lovely display of womanhood and the worst part of being on your period.
Let’s be brutally honest here, the uterine lining disposing itself through your vagina is probably the easiest part of your period. In fact, periods would be cake if not for pesky PMS. Although we are all good friends with Midol and a heating pad, it’s about time we investigate some of the odd methods for PMS relief and the results may surprise you.
Bananas are great for the first sign of your approaching period. Bananas are high in vitamin B6 and potassium which helps with water retention and bloating. Not to mention that bananas are sweet and filling and you know you are hungry as hell on your period!
Use a laptop charger
This is bizarre but it makes so much sense. Laptop chargers tend to get really hot after use and can be a really impromptu heating pad when you don’t have one. Because it’s so small you can also massage your lower back and pelvic area!
Drink warm water
Drinking warm water will again help with the PMS bloat and flush out the toxins from your body. Drinking warm water has also been known to help with period cramps, not to mention being absolutely amazing for digestion.
Having an oh so good time
When you are PMSing, the last thing you want to think about is sex. But sex is actually incredible for PMS symptoms. Not only do orgasms help as a release down there, it helps with your period cramps. Sex also tends to better your mood and overall attitude.
Put a little cinnamon on it
If you’re the kind of girl who’s got a heavy flow then you might want to sprinkle some sprinkle some cinnamon into your diet. Cinnamon is a great spice to alleviate the heaviness of your menstrual period and adds a nice kick to tea and coffee.
Make some ginger tea
This remedy may not be so surprising to most but if you haven’t tried ginger tea during your period then you have to now. Ginger tea is great for inflammation and helps relieve cramping. Not to mention the fact that its also warm and hydrating. Ginger tea is also associated with weight loss as an appetite suppressant.
Too much chocolate may not be good for your gut but it’s damn good for your soul. We all know that PMSing causes women to desperately need chocolate but it’s not just for your comfort food of choice during your period. Turns out, chocolate is rich in magnesium that alleviates cramps and improves your energy. Yay science!
Take your vitamins
You’re going to lose a lot of essential vitamins during your cycle, so you want to prep for the deficiency. Taking daily vitamins are important for your overall health but become essential during PMS. A lot of the hormonal imbalance can be improved by keeping up with your vitamins.
Whatever your little heart desires in that moment
You are fucking bleeding for a week, you deserve to do what you want. The weirdest suggestion of them all is to do whatever the fuck you want to do. It’s crazy how doing what you want can improve your mood.
