Fiat Chrysler just declared that they will be giving away thousands of their Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans to autonomous vehicle company Waymo.
The vehicles for the company will be for their driverless taxi service that will be available sometime in 2018.
John Krafcik, CEO of Waymo, said via statement, “With the world’s first fleet of fully self-driving vehicles on the road, we’ve moved from research and development, to operations and deployment,”
The new additions will allow the self-driving company to launch in other states. They have tried out the cars in Atlanta, San Francisco, Detroit, and Kirkland, Washington.
In November, 2017, Krafcik said, “the vehicle is capable of performing all driving functions,” but in some conditions a driver may have to take over.
Self-driving cars are getting closer and closer to being the thing of the present instead of the future.
