Ex-Patriots’ tight end Aaron Hernandez’s death by hanging has been officially declared a suicide by the Worcester County State’s Attorney, the superintendent of the Massachusetts state police, and the Massachusetts Secretary of Public Safety. Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker announced that an investigation would be conducted to reveal “exactly what happened and when.”
Investigators discovered three notes next to a bible in his cell that were written by the star before his death. Security footage from the night is also being reviewed for any more information on why the star took his own life. Currently, one DOC officer is facing possible discipline for missing a 2am walkthrough, which would have taken place an hour before the suicide.
The embattled star was found in his cell hanging by his bed sheets, and early reports indicated that he had “John 3:16” written across his forehead in red marker, in reference to the bible verse. While the embattled athlete definitely had his share of detractors, the 27-year-old’s death was still a shock to everyone who knew him. Hernandez’s brain will be donated for science.
