Aly Raisman, US Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics has been in the news over Nassar abuse. Raisman alleged that Nassar sexually abused her when she went to him for rehab and checkups, as he was the team doctor.
Several other gymnasts spoke out against Nassar, and before long, Nassar was put on trial and convicted for 175 years.
“After all this time, they remain unwilling to conduct a full investigation, and without a solid understanding of how this happened, it is delusional to think sufficient changes can be implemented,” said Raisman “I refuse to wait any longer for these organizations to do the right thing. It is my hope that the legal process will hold them accountable and enable the change that is so desperately needed.”
The lawsuit claims that Nassar inappropriately touched the girls on the team as he had “unlimited access” to them while they trained at Karolyi Ranch. According to the lawsuit, a gymnastics trainer was sometimes in the room as Nassar took advantage of the young girls.
The US Olympic Committee claimed they were unaware of the allegations until a report was published in 2016, but records indicate that the USA Gymnastics brought it to the attention the security chief of the organization as early as 2015.
But USA Gymnastics said it was unaware of the allegations and the extent of Nassar’s actions because the information was given to the FBI. However the lawsuit proves that was a lie, and proves that members complained to the committee.
The brunt of the lawsuit focuses on why action was not taken sooner, when the USOC and USA Gymnastics were aware of Nassar and what he was doing.
