After blowing other streaming services out of the water with their content specific to their platform, it looks like Apple music might be slowly distancing themselves from exclusive album releases.
In a a recent interview with Music Business Worldwide, Apple executive Jimmy Iovine claimed that Apple Music isn’t looking to ask many artist at this time to release their music exclusively with their streaming service. “We tried it,” he said. “We’ll still do some stuff with the occasional artist. The labels don’t seem to like it and ultimately it’s their content.”
But, that doesn’t mean Apple is completely done with the exclusive content. “We’re doing exclusive video content now,”Iovine explained, stating that Apple is “putting a lot of money into that.”
