They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but when it comes to Trump it seems Alec Baldwin is done flattering.
Baldwin’s spot on impression of Trump brought new life to what had become a faltering Saturday Night Live, but the show might have to go on without him. Baldwin told Extra’s Mario Lopez that he might be hanging up the beloved impression soon, saying the situation is too serious to continue laughing at.
“The maliciousness of this White House has people worried,” Baldwin said. “That’s why I’m not going to do it much longer, the impersonation. I don’t know how much more people can take it.”
The news is particularly saddening given that many hoped Baldwin would do the impression at the upcoming White House Correspondent’s Dinner. Given that Trump has said he would not be attending, Baldwin would certainly be the next best thing. He doubts his invitation is in the mail though.
“I don’t think it’s going to happen,” he explained. “I don’t think they want that, for their [prestige] and their integrity. I think a lot of people are thinking if Trump himself doesn’t come and face the music, as it were, I don’t know what kind of program they’re going to have.”
