20th Century Fox has announced that the release dates for two of its most notable upcoming films have been pushed back. Originally, X-Men: Dark Phoenix was slated to be in theaters on November 2, 2018, but it will now be released on Valentine’s Day, 2019, and New Mutants, having already been pushed back to early 2019, has been pushed even further, with its new opening date now August 2, 2019.

This release date shuffling has led to rumors, suggesting that Fox ordered for production on both films, particularly New Mutants, for reshoots and to make it scarier. There have also been rumors that these new release dates have to do with Disney’s upcoming acquisition of Fox’s film studio and characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That deal is expected to close in late 2018 or early-to-mid-2019, pending regulatory approval.
