Undrafted St. Louis Rams quarterback Austin Davis seems to have won over a big fan. The 25 year old has looked impressive thus far and has a big cheerleader in his old school’s most famous alum, Brett Favre. Favre and Davis are the only qbs from Southern Mississippi to ever start more than one game in the NFL. But maybe Brett has taken one too many hits to the head.
In recent comments to Ed Werder of ESPN, Favre said “Austin can definitely play at this level,” Favre told the veteran reporter. “Not to sound off my rocker, but [Davis], in my mind, can be the next Tom Brady or Kurt Warner. [Brian] Hoyer as well. Austin, like those mentioned, just needed a legit opportunity.” Well Brett, you kinda do sound off your rocker. Sure, Davis has looked pretty good so far and is coming off a pretty impressive win over the defending champion Seattle Seahawks, and Hoyer has looked solid as the starter for the Cleveland Browns, but let’s calm the hell down.
To compare Davis and Hoyer to two of the greatest overlooked players in any sport, ever, is weapons grade crazy. Brady was a 6th round draft pick and has 3 Super Bowl rings and 2 MVPs, while Warner wasn’t even drafted and he’s got one ring and a pair of MVPs, and both qbs are ticketed for the hall of fame. So let’s slow our roll, okay Brett.
