Check Out This Mental Jiu-Jitsu Trick to Diffuse Cat Callers

Self defense is easy to learn, but difficult to master. Sure, you can win a local-yokel karate tournament by waxing cars and sanding floors, but becoming a master is no easy task. Luckily, for the ladies, there’s a new mind game they can play to defend themselves from creepy cat-callers.

In a tweet, author and activist Feminista Jones imparts a bit of wisdom with a kind of mental jiu-jitsu to use against men who give creepy, unsolicited compliments.

Jones’ tweet went viral, with a number of women attesting to how valid her strategy is.

This technique totally turns the tables on cat callers. It’s almost like killing them with kindness, but the kindness is only directed at the woman, herself. For a guy to get offended by a woman agreeing with his compliment, that means he wasn’t being sincere in the first place (shocking, I know). The cat caller doesn’t mean to build women up, he means to build himself up in his target’s eyes, that he’s generous, that he finds her attractive. When a woman acts like a compliment is no surprise, it pulls the rug straight out from underneath the cat caller’s feet.
