The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival falls under the umbrella of entertainment company AEG, whose owner is giving off some very anti-rock ‘n’ roll vibes.
Philip Anschutz is not the type of guy you would expect to trek out to the desert to catch a set by the likes of Radiohead, Kendrick Lamar, or Lorde, but he is the type of guy who profits off the people who do. As head of AEG, a portion of his wealth comes from the coffers of Coachella, which he then uses to contribute to anti-LGBTQ groups such as the Alliance Defending Freedom, the National Christian Foundation, and the Family Research Council and his own climate change-denying foundation.
For those of you planning to attend Coachella, but who also support tolerance and believe the globe is warming, you may be feeling in a bit of a bind. If you still want to go but also want to oppose the efforts of people like Anschutz, consider donating an amount equal to the value of your ticket to organizations like Lambda Legal, the Trevor Project, or 350.org.
