Adding another straight white man to the ranks of late night TV, Comedy Central just announced it will be giving The Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper his own late night show. The as-of-yet untitled show is being produced by Trevor Noah, and its premise sounds vaguely familiar.
According to the press release, Klepper’s show “will look to embrace and define the chaos of our country by channeling Klepper’s steadfast attitude that institutions are to be trusted less than the lies of the mainstream media.”
Sounds kind of like The Colbert Report right? Given that Stephen Colbert came from The Daily Show, and that he and Jon Stewart enjoyed incredible success playing off of each other, it’s easy to see why the network would want to start up a similar pairing.
Klepper is probably best known for his work at Trump rallies, where he has done several segments lampooning the rally goers and making them sound like the blind idiots they are. Klepper for one is thrilled to be taking on the endeavor.
“The choice to entrust me with the 11:30 p.m. timeslot is both incredibly humbling and deeply disturbing,” said Klepper. “Without a doubt, it has utterly destroyed my confidence in Comedy Central’s decision making acumen. Dear God, now I have to work with these fools.”
That’s “OMG I’m so excited” in comedian speak.
The upcoming Klepper spin off will air Monday through Thursday at 11:30 p.m. beginning this fall.
