Every Friday, NewsCult Entertainment Editor Jeffrey Malone recommends the entertainment essentials of the week – at least three, often more, and usually at least one cinematic and at least one televisual, but it could be ANY combination.
1. Movie: Hereditary (Theatrically Nationwide) – A familial history of mental illness, a horrible accident, and a dash of the devil combine for the unshakeable horror experience of Hereditary. Toni Collette delivers the full range of human emotions as she attempts to survive it all.
2. TV: Kanye West on Celebrity Family Feud (June 10 on ABC) – Ye’s recent extracurricular activities have not been the most palatable, but all signs are pointing to him having a good time and avoiding controversy as he tries to match what the survey says. According to host Steve Harvey, West is the best celebrity contestant they’ve ever had on the show. His appearance is all part of the kickoff for the 2018 return of ABC’s Summer Fun & Games Lineup.
3. TV: 72nd Annual Tony Awards (June 11 on CBS) – I have never really watched Broadway’s biggest night, but the conventional wisdom is that the Tonys know how to put on a satisfying show, so I’m thinking maybe I should change my routine. The smart money this year says The Band’s Visit is the musical to beat, Harry Potter is the top play, and Angels in America will dominate among revivals. Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban co-host.
