‘Game of Thrones’ Costume Designer Says Night’s Watch Capes are From Ikea

Well, there’s something I didn’t expect.

Game of Thrones is one of the most expensive shows to film in history. Each episode is over $10 million to create. However, that budget isn’t going towards costumes. In fact, the costume design is the cheapest thing. Again, didn’t expect that.

According to Quartz, the capes donned by the Night’s Watch are actually just rugs from Ikea. Yup/

The show’s award-winning costume designer Michele Clapton revealed the incredible hack during a 2016 presentation at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.

She said,

“These capes are actually Ikea rugs. A bit of trick. We take anything we can. We cut and we shave them and then we added strong leather straps and breakdown, which is like a religion on Game of Thrones.”

Here’s the silver lining: if you want to be Jon Snow for Halloween, it’s super cheap.
