‘Game of Thrones’ Star Jason Momoa Apologizes for “Tasteless” Rape Joke
At this point in time, everyone is taking sexual assault very, very seriously thanks to the recent shit storm that’s come down on Harvey Weinstein. That means that anyone who’s made any reference to rape, sexual assault, or sexual harassment is being ripped apart.
Yesterday, a video from 2011 started making its way around the Internet. The video saw Game of Thrones’ Jason Momoa make a rape joke.
In the video, which is of a 2011 Comic-Con panel, Momoa says,
“But as far as sci-fi and fantasy, I love that genre because there are so many things you can do, like rip someone’s tongue out of their throat and get away with it and rape beautiful women.”
While his panel co-stars facepalmed, the crowd started laughing.
Obviously this isn’t okay, and Momoa is now apologizing for the video.
On Thursday, Momoa apologized with the following statement:
“I awoke in Australia to the justified reactions by many people to a distasteful joke I made years ago in Hall H for which I am sorry. I am still severely disappointed in myself at the insensitivity of my remarks that day. I know my sincerest apology now won’t take away those hurtful words. Rape and sexual harassment can reach anyone and I have seen first hand its painful torment among members of my own family and friends.”
Jason, I love you, but you’re making me question my feelings.
