Just when you think video games couldn’t get anymore more real, Google is creating a API for maps.
The maps allow designers to obtain real life geography, geometry, landmarks, and 3D buildings. Game designers will be allowed to gain access to the maps and use them as a layout for the digital world. The designs will transform into the GameObjects for the Unity video game engine.
According to Google blog post, the company stated,
Building on top of Google Maps’ global infrastructure means faster response times, the ability to scale on demand, and peace of mind knowing that your game will just work.
The upgrade will also give creators that are using ARCore for augmented reality games the chance to take their creation and put them on geographical maps. This will allow users to have a pretty amazing gaming experience.
Google is teaming up with a few gaming designers to use the software on games like the Walking Dead: Your World and Jurassic World Alive.
The company will showcase their new toy at this year Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, California. The event will take place from March 19th to March 23rd.
