Hackers Pull Off Heist of the Year, Stealing $70 Million Worth of Bitcoin

“Hacker’s gonna hack,” and what better time to do so than when Bitcoin stocks are rising by the minute (literally)?

In what could easily be called the heist of the year, a group of hackers swiped nearly $70 million in Bitcoin currency.

NiceHash made the announcement on their Facebook page stating, “Clearly, this is a matter of deep concern and we are working hard to rectify the matter in the coming days.”

Head of Marketing of the company, Andrej P. Škraba, told the Wall Street Journal that 4,700 Bitcoin in total were taken from NiceHash’s Bitcoin wallet alone.

An important matter to note, however, is that as Bitcoin’s stocks skyrocket, so does the value of the heist. In turn, as the value of the heist goes up, so does the amount of jail time for those involved. With the value currently sitting somewhere around a whopping $17,000, that’s a lot of time in lock-up.

Good-luck attempting to get out of that one.

The increased success of Bitcoin comes after having a rather devastating year in 2014. Today however, it’s helped turn the Winklevoss twins into billionaires.
