Back in December, the first full trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One was released. Though it was clear the movie was painstakingly designed and immense in scale, the trailer was relatively scant on the plot details.
Fortunately for us, a new trailer has arrived that helps explain the story a bit more:
Though I’ve never read the book – reading’s for dorks and I’m a cool guy [adjusts leather jacket] – the trailer does a good job of clarifying the film’s plot. The main character, Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan), lives in a dystopian future where everyone enters a virtual-reality world called OASIS as a means of escape.
The inventor of OASIS (Mark Rylance) leaves a hidden Easter Egg inside the virtual world after his death and opens a competition: whoever finds the Easter Egg will inherit the company. As Wade notes in the trailer, “Control OASIS, control the world.”
The trailer shows off some of the special effects magic for which Spielberg is known. Despite the wildly confusing plot (at least to an outsider), the movie still looks like it’ll be cool as hell visually.
Ready Player One hits theaters March 29th.
