In a daily dose of cuteness, Japan’s Princess Mako of Akishino, great-granddaughter of Hirohito, who governed Japan during World War II, will be giving up her royal title. For what you might ask? Love, all in the name of love.
Mako has plans to marry her college cutie, Kei Komuro, a graduate student who works at a law firm, confirmed by the Japanese Imperial Household. The two met while studying at while studying at the International Christian University in Tokyo.
According to imperial law, it is required that if a princess marries a commoner they are stripped of their royal title upon marriage. Despite losing her status, the wedding between the two will still be a spectacle for all of Japan, and the rest of the world to bear witness.
