Jimmy Fallon took a break from his laughing to take on a more serious role: a rewrite of the legendary Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin'” to fit with modern social issues and the Trump administration. And honestly? He did a really good job.
I also love Bob Dylan, so I might be a bit biased, but I think for a parody, this is amazingly well done. It doesn’t even really play like a parody, just like a new version of the song that fits with today’s culture.
“If a tweet to you is worth favin’/then lift up your voices and put down your phones/for the times they are a-changin,'” Fallon-Dylan calls to action. Fallon calls out several different prominent social movements in the song, such as the anti-sexual harassment and assault hashtag #MeToo, athletes protesting the National Anthem, journalists who are under attack from Trump, and the importance of voting.
The favorite line of the song, though, will undoubtedly be: “For weak is the man who calls truth ‘Fake News'”, which is pretty great. I definitely think Bob Dylan will approve of this new version of the song.
The YouTube reviews are in: V commented, “This is actually monumental. yall just made a black man google bob dylan and semi cry.”
There you have it!
