John Oliver Calls Out GOP Senators for Blind Support of Panda Ball-Kicking Roy Moore

Last Week Tonight took last Sunday off, so host John Oliver was flooded with new material to cover on this week’s episode. His political roundup at the top of the show even had to cover more than just the latest goings-on in Trumpland.

The British funnyman/analyst turned his laser-like attention to the Senate race to fill Jeff Sessions’ vacant seat in Alabama. The Republican candidate is Roy Moore, who has attracted attention for his controversial views on homosexuality, 9/11, and Islam.

But Oliver’s frustration is not reserved for Moore as much as it is current Republican senators like John Cornyn of Texas who support Moore simply because he is their party’s nominee, regardless of how much they do or do not agree with him. Then there are folks like Dean Heller of Nevada, Rob Portman of Ohio, and Tim Scott of South Carolina, who claim to not even be paying attention to the race because they’re too concerned about taxes.

Watch the clip below, and keep an eye out for a comparison that Nic Cage’s character in The Wicker Man would be proud of.
