Kim Kardashian West’s appetite-suppressing lollipops advert on Instagram is outrageous
On Tuesday, Kim Kardashian West posted a photo of her on Instagram sucking a lollipop that helps suppress appetite. In the caption, she mentioned the product as being “literally unreal” and offered a 15% discount code.
The photo Ad has not been well received by fans who are angry and accusing Kim of promoting disordered eating.
The star has around 111 million followers on Instagram and has a lot of power to influence people in the virtual world. In fact, the Council of Fashion Designers of America recently announced that she will be receiving an ‘influencer award’ on June 4th. This shows how influential the star can be especially with young impressionable girls.
It seems like she is not using her power responsibly and many people pointed out immediately after she posted the photo on Instagram that promoting appetite suppressants sends a very harmful message.
The actress Jameela Jamil, who believes in body positivity, described the Kardashian as a “terrible and toxic influence on young girls”.
No. Fuck off. No. You terrible and toxic influence on young girls. I admire their mother’s branding capabilities, she is an exploitative but innovative genius, however this family makes me feel actual despair over what women are reduced to. ☹️ pic.twitter.com/zDPN1T8sBM
