The fourth episode of this season of Game of Thrones, set to air on Sunday, has made its way to the internet. The episode, entitled “The Spoils of War,” appeared on the subreddit r/freefolk, a popular Game of Thrones discussion board. Reddit user zmax87 posted it and said it was a “Gift from Pakistan.”
You would think this is the result of the recent HBO hack, which some are calling the biggest cyber attack in history, right?
Well, according to The Verge, sources familiar with HBO’s security breach claim that this leak is the result of distribution partner:
“The distribution partner is Star India, and the company’s logo appears watermarked throughout the leaked episode. HBO has struggled to run its own operations in India and handed off distribution duties to Star India back in 2015. While additional episodes could leak from this particular distribution partner, it appears that the HBO hackers haven’t managed to obtain full episodes. Hackers reportedly stole 1.5 terabytes of data, but have only published scripts for upcoming episodes.”
Nevertheless, this leak is just another nail in the coffin that is their terrible week.
