The lava from Kilauea volcano is destroying houses
Authorities have told residents to evacuate their houses as the lava erupting from the volcano is spreading quickly and destroying more and more houses.
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the total number of structures and homes destroyed by the volcano is around 82.
According to the County of Hawaii, this eruption is the most destructive in more than a century where around 2,200 acres of land have been burnt to the ground by lava since 3 May.
Firefighters have been going door to door to inform residents to evacuate their homes before the lava arrives.
Around 37 structures have been “lava locked”; making houses hard to access and residents who did not leave could have been possibly trapped inside.
In an alert, Hawaii County Civil Defense said, “Any residents remaining in the current affected areas should evacuate now.”
