If you’re a fan of Spike TV’s newest hit Lip Sync Battle and you live in New York City, you’re in for a treat.
On July 13 in Central Park, New York City’s SummerStage series will present a live stage show of Lip Sync Battle. The event is free and open to the public, with the promise of the show’s host LL Cool J and commentator Chrissy Teigen‘s presence. The celebrity contestants in question are still be finalized by LSB‘s producers, but the real-time performances are set to be much like the television version.
“It’ll be like two editions of our show, back-to-back,” says Casey Patterson, executive producer of LSB. “There will be four performers and they’ll probably do two songs each. It’s similar to [the TV edition], but blown up a bit. We have a big stage we have to fill.”
The SummerSeries has only one live performance scheduled, but the success of a real-time show like this one could prompt future LSB events including additional live performances. Television shows based around musical performances often tour the country doing live performances, as with shows like American Idol and Glee.
“We’re very interested in seeing [the format] live and seeing what it would look like in a festival model,” Patterson says. “This is a great way for us to test the waters for that. I think it’s really going to soar in this environment.”
Although the live Lip Sync Battle event in New York City will not be broadcast to audiences at home, the morning of the SummerSeries event there will be a special live performance on Good Morning America. Fans of the show can also indulge in new episodes starting July 9.
