The trailer for the third and final season of Netflix’s Love has arrived, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
At the end of Season 2, Gus (Paul Rust) and Mickey (Gillian Jacobs) had finally made the leap from hooking up to a committed relationship. The road to their coupling has been long and filled with obstacles, but now that they’re finally together, everything should be smooth sailing, right?
The trailer opens with Gus and Mickey doing some heavy petting in bed before Mickey asks if Gus minds if she uses her vibrator. Gus – his characteristic inability to say one full sentence without stammering still intact – agrees, leading to Mickey bringing out a Hitachi wand, the size of which evidently frightens Gus.
(Hey, Gus: learn how vibrators work.)
The moment is a microcosm of the transition from hooking up to commitment. When you’re hooking up with someone, you have the freedom to opt out of all those potentially awkward – but ultimately rewarding – moments; when you’ve committed to them, you’re expected to stick around.
The final season of the show will focus on Gus and Mickey’s struggles in that transition, including whether they’re moving too quickly, whether this is it for them, and whether they’ll last.
If this season is anything like the last two, it’s bound to be filled with frustration, humor, and most of all…”Love.”
