This, my friends, is how companies go bankrupt.
Daily Mail published an article about FLOTUS, Melania Trump, that basically painted her as an escort. So, Mrs. Trump decided to sue the paper for damages and won big time. Aside from the payout, Daily Mail has also retracted the story originally published on August 20th, 2016 and titled, “Racy photos, and troubling questions about his wife’s past that could derail Trump.”
The article basically said that Melania once worked at a modeling agency that also “operated as an escort agency for wealthy clients.” However, Daily Mail said that in the article they literally said that there is no basis for the rumors. Yet, they still have to pay her.
The lawsuit initially asked for $150 million but according to CNN, they will pay $2.9 million.
According to the New York Times, a lawyer for Daily Mail said
“We accept that these allegations about Mrs. Trump are not true and we retract and withdraw them. We apologize to Mrs. Trump for any distress that our publication caused her. To settle Mrs. Trump’s two lawsuits against us, we have agreed to pay her damages and costs.”
