Get the tissues ready because there’s about to be some waterworks.
Courtney and Tom Gilmour have been foster parents to Janielle, 12, and Elijah, 10, for about 3 years now. They knew from the beginning they wanted to adopt the two, “but sometimes the system doesn’t work as fast as your heart works,” Courtney told USA Today.
Finally the system cooperated, and the Gilmours learned their adoption paperwork had been finalized before their trip to Disney World in May. They decided there would be no better way to announce the adoption to Janielle and Elijah than with the help of Mickey Mouse.
The adoption day lined up with their trip, so everything fell into place quite easily. “I thought, ‘How cool would it be for Mickey to hold up a sign telling the kids,'” Courtney said. She was a foster child herself, so she shared the video to raise awareness about foster children and adoption.
The video shows the kids going into a private autograph signing with Mickey. They talk for a bit, do some magic tricks, and get some pictures before Mickey is handed a sign by someone off camera. The sign says “Your Adoption Day Will Be May 24th, 2017.” Once the kids see it, the happy tears start flowing from everyone.
The moment has been viewed almost 2 million times since it was posted on July 6th, and I’m sure has led to lots of people crying in front of their computer screen.
