A new job just opened up at NASA today, and basically, it requires you to save the world from aliens.

The official title of the job is “Planetary Protection Officer,” and the job description goes as follows:

“Planetary protection is concerned with the avoidance of organic-constituent and biological contamination in human and robotic space exploration. NASA maintains policies for planetary protection applicable to all space flight missions that may intentionally or unintentionally carry Earth organisms and organic constituents to the planets or other solar system bodies, and any mission employing spacecraft, which are intended to return to Earth and its biosphere with samples from extraterrestrial targets of exploration. This policy is based on federal requirements and international treaties and agreements.”

According to Business Insider, there’s only two of these positions in the whole world. Only of them is here in the United States. The most recent person to occupy this position, Catherine Conley, has recently moved to another department within NASA. Thus, this position is now open.

It gets better. Although the job has a three-year minimum requirement, you’ll be making at least six figures per year. The salary ranges from $124,406 to $187,000, so you’ll be making a shit-ton of money, while also saving the Earth.

While this job is technically open to the public, it requires a pretty heavy science background. You need a lot of experience in physical science, as well as “Planetary Protection,” whatever that means.
