Universal’s Islands of Adventure, AKA that other Universal park, is getting a new Harry Potter themed ride in 2019!
Described as a “new generation of thrill ride,” the attraction will be one of Universal’s “most highly-themed coaster experiences” as Universal is collaborating with Warner Bros. and the production design team from the Harry Potter films in order to bring this ride to life.
“This ride is going to redefine the category and transport you to thrilling places, drawing you into even more exciting adventures within the wizarding world. It’s going to be the perfect addition to Hogsmeade.”
Not much is known about the ride’s story, other than it “will take you deeper into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where you will encounter some of your favorite characters and creatures.”
The only downside is that the upcoming ride will be replacing the Dragon Challenge rollercoaster, that used to be called “Dueling Dragons” before Hogsmeade came to town. The last day of operation for Dragon Challenge will be Monday, September 4th, with the new ride set to open sometime in 2019.
Earlier this year, a rumor was circulating that a Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them ride was coming to Universal, replacing Dragon Challenge. Luckily, it sounds like this ride will be based on the whole franchise, rather than just Fantastic Beasts. My guess is that it’ll involve the Forbidden Forrest, since the location would be perfect in terms of the Hogwarts castle.
I know a lot of people are probably sad to see Dragon Challenge go, but the ride’s theming is minimal, and I’m all about immersive ride experiences, especially when it pertains to my favorite franchise.
