New Zealand Just Gave Away Free Trips In an Attempt to Gain Workers

Work in the tech industry and have always wanted to go to New Zealand?

Well, now you can.

The best part?

It’s free.

So the country’s capital, Wellington, has a population of under 500,000. The city is trying to build itself into a reputable technology hub and it needs the right employees for it. As a result, the city developed the LookSeeWellington program. It offers 100 tech workers a free week-long trip to the capital city.

Of course, some work is to be expected. You will be expected to go to pre-planned job interviews with companies in New Zealand.

The program received almost 50,000 applications, crashing the website at one point. Of the 93 people who came as part of the program, 63 accepted job offers. Needless to say, the marketing worked.

The Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency (WREDA) spent $224,000, in U.S. dollars on the campaign. it was a hefty sum, but the investment is said to be worth it down the line for the economy and development as a tech empire.
