Do you want to help the environment? Do you also want to freak people out by taking bites out of your tableware? These plates and bowls made of wheat bran allow you to do both!
This edible tableware is made by compressing wheat bran with high pressure and extreme temperatures to form some surprisingly regular-looking bowls and plates. The tableware is made by a company called Biotrem, which is based in Poland. If you don’t want to literally eat your plate, the products are 100% biodegradable, and take a mere 30 days to compost.
The tableware is economical, too: it only takes a ton of wheat to make 10,000 plates or bowls. These can even survive the microwave. While I can’t say they look like they’d taste very good, this is a concept I can get behind.
I give it a year until these are at every vegan barbecue in gentrified neighborhoods across the country.
