ABC’s Roseanne really knocked their premiere out of the park, bringing in 18.2 million viewers and an impressive 5.1 rating amongst adults. The protagonist, Roseanne Conner, along with her real-life counterpart, Roseanne Barr, is a staunch Trump supporter. The good ratings and praise caught the eye of former reality-TV star Donald Trump, who called the actor to express gratitude and congratulate her.
The New York Times reported that the president thanked Barr for her support, and was particularly interested in the ratings. An insider said Trump “was enthralled by the ‘huge’ ratings.” Of course he was!
Barr herself weighed in on the conversation during a phone interview with Good Morning America. We just kinda had a private conversation, but we talked about a lot of things,” she said. “He was just happy for me. I’ve known him for a lot of years and he’s done a lot of nice things for me over the years, and it’s a friendly conversation about working, television, and ratings.”
Hmm. It’s no wonder Trump didn’t call the rest of the cast- their characters don’t agree with Roseanne’s political views. Wonder what he would think if the premiere had tanked?
