President Vladimir Putin Plans to Run for Reelection, Probably Already Calling Trump

Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced his intention to run in his country’s election in March, according to The Associated Press. His announcement of his desire for a reelection was in the audience of automobile factory workers.

Putin, who currently holds an 80% approval rating, neglected to make a statement at an earlier event. He declared that he would make his decision “shortly” and that public trust would play a significant factor.

The Russian leader was elected to presidency in 2000, a role in which he served until 2008. Afterwards, Putin served as Russia’s prime minister under President Dmitry Medvedev, who approved Russian presidency terms lengthen from four to six years.

This week, Russia, including its government and Putin himself, was banned from participating and attending the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea as a result of Russia’s doping-program.
