Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced his intention to run in his country’s election in March, according to The Associated Press. His announcement of his desire for a reelection was in the audience of automobile factory workers.
Putin, who currently holds an 80% approval rating, neglected to make a statement at an earlier event. He declared that he would make his decision “shortly” and that public trust would play a significant factor.
The Russian leader was elected to presidency in 2000, a role in which he served until 2008. Afterwards, Putin served as Russia’s prime minister under President Dmitry Medvedev, who approved Russian presidency terms lengthen from four to six years.
