In case you’re behind on your game show viewing, please note that Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek throws shade like nobody else on television.
He was at it again last night, on Day 2 of this year’s Tournament of Champions. During the contestants chit-chat segment, he asked the returning champs what they have been up to since their initial appearances. For Tim Aten, an editor from Vermillion, Ohio who won 7 games back in December 2016, this was an opportunity to discuss a virtual brush with fame.
Aten conceded that he was not the most dominant winner during his initial run, as he played more of a “finesse game.” So he tweeted that he follows the credo “Float like a butterfly, sting like a butterfly,” which captured the attention of a certain San Francisco Giants rightfielder:
My philosophy is basically "Float like a butterfly, sting like a butterfly."

— Hunter Pence (@hunterpence) December 10, 2016
Harking back to 2014, Aten referred to Hunter Pence as “World Series champion.” To which Trebek (a Canada native but apparently an adoptive Dodgers fan) replied: “For the Giants? Yeah, okay, but not this year.”
Ouch, Trebek! I’m still burning nearly 24 hours later.
