What do they call a Star Trek movie directed by Quentin Tarantino? It’s still called Star Trek, just Star Trek with Quentin Tarantino.
The director of the likes of Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained apparently has a “great idea” for a Trek movie, and he has told execs at Paramount all about it. By the sound of Deadline‘s reporting, this idea might just turn into an actual bona fide film.
The plan is to put together “a writers room of scribes” who will hear QT’s idea and then bang the script out. If it all works out to his liking, he will then direct and JJ Abrams will theoretically produce.
This would be the first time a Tarantino film would be an established property instead of an original and the first time he would be directing a script not entirely written by himself. I am a big proponent of franchises allowing themselves to get totally crazy and not worry too much about things like continuity, and hiring an auteur is certainly one way to do that. So, let’s just let QT go wild, and even if the result doesn’t work out, it should still be an interesting experiment.
