Some people just take jokes way, way too far.
Such is the case of one Turkish Airlines passenger, who, during a flight from Nairobi to Istanbul, caused his plane to make an emergency landing before reaching its destination. Why? Because he decided it was a good idea to name is wifi hotspot “bomb on board.”
The flight resumed after having landed and been inspected by security officials, who deemed that there was no real security risks: just one dumbass who had to ruin everyone else’s day for the sake of a bad joke.
Turkish Airlines told Reuters, “No irregularities were seen after security procedures were carried out, and passengers were brought back on the plane once boarding restarted.”
While all 100 passengers were allowed back onto the flight, the airline has not stated whether or not they were able to identify the genius behind the hotspot name.
Regardless of how tasteless the joke was, it wasn’t even all that original. In 2014, a Southwest Airlines passenger en route from Seattle to Denver was detained for naming his hotspot “Southwest- Bomb on Board.”
I enjoy a good joke as anybody, but to ruin everyone else’s day by delaying their flights and scaring the shit out of them? Come on.
