Some Glip Glop Just Paid Nearly $15K for ‘Mulan’ Szechuan Sauce

Adult Swim aired the Season 3 premiere of Rick and Morty on April 1 as a total surprise without any promotion, which was interpreted at the time as an April Fools’ “joke.” But it appears the real shenanigans were part of a longer con.

In the episode, entitled “The Rickshank Rickdemption,” titular mad scientist Rick declares that his primary motivation all along has been to procure a container of limited-supply Szechuan dipping sauce that was produced in 1998 to go along with the release of Mulan.

Following the airing of “Rickshank,” some enterprising individual cleaned out his “really old car” and discovered a packet of the original sauce. Naturally, he listed it on eBay, with the hopes that it would end up with someone who actually wanted to eat it, as opposed to just some collector. And because Rick and Morty is going to last forever, 100 years, Morty, the winning bid totally reasonably ended up being $14,700.

What else is there to say now, except “Wubba lubba dub dub!”
