No surprise here: following the boffo box office success of Alice in Wonderland, Oz the Great and Powerful, Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book, Disney is reaching further into its vault for a live-action update of Snow White.
Let’s go ahead and play a little fantasy casting. For the roles of Snow, the Witch, and the dwarves, I would have to recommend Tilda Swinton.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that scriptwriting duties are going to Erin Cressida Wilson (who just adapted The Girl on the Train) and songwriting will be handled by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who recently worked on the upcoming La La Land.
If this is not the Disney remake you were waiting for, fear not, as this trend is already filling up the release calendar. There’s the Emma Watson-starring Beauty and the Beast early next year, Mulan in 2018, Jon Favreau’s take on The Lion King, and the Guy Ritchie-directed Aladdin. But when will we get a live-action Lady and the Tramp starring Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman in dog costumes?!
