There’s been a lot of buzz around Netflix lately. First, it was discovered that the streaming service is some $20 billion in debt. Then, on Tuesday, Disney announced that they’re pulling their movies and shows from Netflix in order to start their own streaming service. Disney would be pulling their content in 2019 when their contract with Netflix is over.
However, Disney might leave some content on Netflix. Disney owns basically everything, including the new Star Wars films and Marvel franchises.
According to Variety, Netflix is currently in “active discussions” with Disney, in order to keep streaming rights for Star Wars and Marvel past 2019.
Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos spoke to Reuters and said that Disney’s announcement wasn’t a complete surprise.
“That’s why we got into the originals business five years ago, anticipating it may be not as easy a conversation with studios and networks.”
Whether or not Disney will agree is still up in the air.
