The first image depicts Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) in a sewer tunnel system:
The next image is a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Redmayne and co-star Jude Law, who plays the young Albus Dumbeldore. Law’s character appears to be dressed as a muggle:
In an interview with Redmayne, the actor revealed his slightly-magical injury: a dubbed “Wand Shoulder Strain.” In other words, an injured rotator cuff. Redmayne accounted the injury to his spell-casting gestures: “It’s from doing some quite hardcore wand action…. but I’m not getting any better for it.”
In the second part of this planned five tale series, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald takes place in Paris where Dumbledore and Newt team up to hunt the “nefarious wizard” Gillert Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp. The film will introduce several of J.K. Rowling’s newest characters – including Newt’s ex-lover Leta Lestrange, played by Zoe Kravtiz.
The film’s director, David Yates, noted:
The first film had a level of whimsy; the characters felt like children in grown-up bodies….In this movie, it gets grittier and more nuanced and detailed. It’s quite a romantic film, it’s a thriller, it’s quite an interesting combination of genres you rarely see together. I think it will surprise people.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is set to be released November 16, 2018.
