Taylor Swifts “Dress” Isn’t About Ed Sheeran, So Lets Lay That Rumor to Rest

It has been four day since Taylor Swift dropped her new album Reputation, and since then fans have been frantically trying to piece together clues to find out who each song is about. Well lets put one rumor to rest,  “Dress” isn’t about Ed Sheeran, so at least that mystery’s been solved.

Taylor Swifts is known for writing songs about her exes, so fans have been trying to read into lyrics trying to figure out which past lover the singer is talking about.

In the song “Dress” Taylor references to a ‘best friend’, which had everyone thinking Ed Sheeran.

Here are some of the lyrics to “Dress”:

Our secret moments

In your crowded room

They’ve got no idea

About me and you

There is an indentation

In the shape of you

Made your mark on me

A golden tattoo

All of this silence and patience, pining and anticipation

My hands are shaking from holding back from you (ah, ah, ah)

All of this silence and patience, pining and desperately waiting

My hands are shaking from all this (ha, ha, ha, ha)

Say my name and everything just stops

I don’t want you like a best friend

Only bought this dress so you could take it off, take it off (ha, ha, ha)

Carve your name into my bedpost

Cause I don’t want you like a best friend

Only bought this dress so you could take it off, take it off (ha, ha, ha)

Another clue which seems to scream out ‘Ed Sheeran’ is the reference to a golden tattoo. For those who don’t know, Ed Sheeran has a huge tattoo of a lion on his face, with coloring thats a bit gold-ish and orange.

Halfway and ouch

When hype was building up around “Reputations” release, Ed Sheeran told Capital Breakfast radio show that he got to have a first listen at the album before its release.

Ed Sheeran said, “Yeah, I think the songs are great, I think the visuals, she’s really putting everything into the visuals as well, the visuals are really impressive. I think people will like the album!”

But now Ed Sheeran is speaking out about one song in particular, “Dress.” In a livestream with Augustman, he said,  “don’t think it is [about me]. I think if you read into it… It’s not… You know, because she mentions someone with a buzzcut hair cut, and I’ve never had a buzz cut hair cut.”

Below are the lyrics he’s referring to:

Flash back when you met me

Your buzzcut and my hair bleached

Even in my worst times, you could see the best of me

Flash back to my mistakes

My rebounds, my earthquakes

Even in my worst lies, you saw the truth in me

To be honest the lyrics, have Ed Sheeran looking more like the mystery man in Taylors song rather than just a ‘friend’.
