Just in case you might’ve forgotten, one of the most hotly contested debates in the tech world of the past few months was the battle between Apple’s and Google’s respective burger emojis. In fact, it got so heated that burger experts weighed in on the argument, ultimately saying that, while neither emoji is representative of the perfect burger, Apple’s burger emoji was a tad closer.
Here’s what Google’s tragic misrepresentation of the classic burger (as well as its appropriate beer counterpart) looked like at the time:
Okay, two things. First: who the hell uses cheese as the bottom layer of a burger? Second: how is that beer foaming over the top of the mug with there such a large amount of space between the beer itself and the lip of the glass? Simply unforgivable, Google.
Thankfully, Google is working to correct their mistakes, releasing a much improved version of both of these emojis along with their Android 8.1 update:
See? Much better.
Android 8.1 also enables support for the Visual Core processing chip in the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, which lets third-party developers access the camera’s HDR+ feature. But honestly, isn’t the emoji correction way more important? I mean, I think so.
I’m just glad this whole mess is starting to fix itself.
