There’s a Map That Shows the Largest Employers in Every State and it’s Depressing

The various industries for sections of the United States makes for distinctions in employment across the country. But one thing that all 50 states have in common is one large employer for all citizens. A new map shows which employers employ different states, but there is one large company that seems to take over almost half the country: Walmart.

The largest employer for 22 states, Walmart easily surpasses all other companies. With over 1.5 million employees nationally, almost as many people as there are in the city of Philadelphia, most locations for Walmart employment is in the South and Midwest.

Coming in at a distant second place is healthcare, the lead employer in 12 states. Here is an extensive list of each state:
