Trailer Watch: Bo Burnham’s ‘Eighth Grade’ Could Be One of the Best Films of the Year

This trailer for Eighth Grade has taught me that I may be one of the only people who genuinely enjoyed eighth grade. This is yet another potential winner from A24, which is behind such films as Lady Bird and Ex Machina.

The film played at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where it was well-received. It comes from the mind of successful Massachusetts stand-up comic Bo Burnham, who wrote and directed, and it stars Elsie Fisher, who broke out thanks to her voiceover work as Agnes in Despicable Me.

Throughout the trailer we see a girl who is far from outspoken, and even wins an award at school for being shy. However, she’s very much involved on social media, as the trailer begins with her speaking on her YouTube channel and playing with Snapchat filters.

The film may be relatable to many current eighth graders or those of us who hated that time of our lives. No matter what, Eighth Grade looks impressive and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it nominated for some awards.

Eighth Grade hits theaters July 13. Watch the trailer below:
