WhatsApp is finally introducing its payment feature to the people of India. The application is currently running a beta version of the “new” feature for testing.
WhatsApp has been developing the payment feature for quite some time. However, the Facebook-owned company had to first get approval from the Indian government in order to introduce UPI. With banks such as State Bank of India, ICICI, HDFC, and Axis on board, they’re now on track to release the feature to users who have long anticipated its arrival.
The banks are displayed in the WhatsApp user interface, as shown below.
Users will simply need to configure the feature in effort for it to be activated. This can be done by simply verifying your personal information (i.e.: phone number and bank).
WhatsApp is used by an astounding 200 million active users daily in India making the chances of the company’s P2P feature becoming a huge sensation quite high.
