Yet again, the White House decided it was a good idea to step away from the societal issue of police shootings. Specifically, the shootings of African Americans by the police with little or no reason.
Press secretary Sarah Sanders, when asked about the Stephon Clark, a man who was fatally shot by Sacramento police earlier this month, said that police shootings are more of a local issue.
At the time of his shooting, Clark was unarmed. Meanwhile, bodycam footage shows the officers yelling “gun” multiple times. The officers shot at Clark 20 times. Police say Clark ran when a police helicopter arrived at the scene.
Sanders called the death a “terrible incident,” but:
“Certainly, we want to make sure all law enforcement is carrying out the letter of the law. The president is very supportive of law enforcement. But at the same time, in these specific cases and these specific instances, those will be left up to local authorities to make that determination and not something for the federal government to weigh into.”
